M-MAT Multi-Modal Attachment Therapy: An Integrated Whole-Brain Approach to Attachment Injuries in Children and Families
If you work with children and families, this may be what you have been looking for!
This book provides a new, easy-to-follow roadmap for understanding and working with children with some of the most challenging and treatment-resistant behaviors, and their families.
In clear, concise language, Young lays forth for the reader an easy to follow roadmap for understanding and implementing M-MAT with children and their caregivers. M-MAT is a dyadic, family therapy model, but Young additionally outlines how to work with those children who do not have a permanent, committed caregiver.
M-MAT Multi-Modal Attachment Therapy provides a brief overview of attachment theory, but focuses primarily on the how-to of implementing this therapy model. Many interventions and examples are included throughout the book. It is intended as a practical manual for therapists and social workers, but also holds some use for other professionals in understanding approaches to working with children with attachment injuries.
M-MAT is applied attahcment theory. It is designed for children with mild to severe attachment injuries, including those with developmental trauma and/or diagnosed with reactive attachment disorder (RAD). It is also useful for children who have experienced trauma. Many children, and particularly adopted and foster children may benefit greatly from this model, as placements are often lost due to untreated or under-treated attachment injuries

Picture Books
These picture books support attachment and reflect the enduring parent/child bond. They can be used at home by parents and/or in-session by therapists with child and parent. Don't worry if they seem to young for the child as attachment-injured children tend to operate at a younger emotional age. I find they usually love having these stories read to them. The advantage of picture books is they are short, to the point, and engaging. Don't worry about repeat reading, as repetition is good! In M-MAT sessions, reading would fall in the middle, 'talk' part of the session.
